Our History

Earth's Best Baby Foods was the brainchild of twin brothers who started their Vermont-based organic baby food company in 1985. The brothers recognized that traditional baby food recipes included many refined and overly processed ingredients. They also realized the amount of agricultural chemicals found in conventional foods and some farming methods in the U.S. could be improved through organic methods that are modeled after nature's systems and process. The goal was for babies to begin their lives eating wholesome and safe foods harvested via organic farming practices designed to enrich the earth's soil and water supplies for future generations.

The vision of these Vermont brothers united a broad base of enthusiastic supporters and by 1987 they opened an organic food processing facility in Vermont. In the first years, there were 20 employees producing 3 fruit purees and 2 vegetable purees, but the demand for safe, organic baby foods was growing quickly and Earth's Best stepped up its plans to service this growing need of concerned American families.

Through the early -90s Earth's Best expanded its offering of fruit and vegetable purees and added several baby cereals to its product line. By 1995, the brand consisted of more than 50 products and had been introduced to the grocery marketplace through Kings and Grand Union grocery stores, adding to its already highly successful line with nationwide distribution in natural food stores.

In 1996, Earth's Best was purchased by H.J. Heinz Company. It continued to launch new organic products including infant first foods of simple fruit and vegetable purees and whole grain bars for toddlers.

In 2000, The Hain Celestial Group, Inc., based in New York, bought Earth's Best and continued to expand the infant product line. Earth's Best also expanded into foods for older children with its Tots and Kidz lines. Recognized for its leadership, Hain Celestial was selected by Sesame workshop in 2004 to partner in their "Healthy Habits For Life" Initiative , an on-going campaign to help young children and their caregivers establish an early foundation of healthy habits. Through that initiative, Earth's Best now offers a full line of Sesame Street breakfasts, snacks and meals including frozen foods, developed to meet the secific nutritional needs of children.

Earth's Best continues to expand into categories providing organic alternatives for growing babies. In 2005 the brand expanded to include Earth's Best Baby Body Care by Jason, and in 2006 the brand introduced the first ever national launch in natural foods stores of iron fortified Organic Infant Dairy and Soy Formulas that contain DHA and ARA, essential fatty acids needed for brain and eye development. The most recent launch is Earth's Best TenderCare™ chlorine free diapers and wipes.

Hain Celestial has never lost sight of the original reasons why Earth's Best was created and continues to fulfill the original vision of is founders, to nurture babies by providing them with the purest, freshest choices for their nutrition and well being.
