Whole Grains have three layers

What is a good whole grain?
Whole grains have three layers.

  1. The outer layer (bran) contains up to 80% of the grains total mineral value, including B vitamins and fiber.

  2. The middle layer (endosperm) contains protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.

  3. The small inner core (germ) contains highly concentrated B vitamins, vitamin E, protein, trace minerals, "good" unsaturated fats, antioxidants and phytochemicals


Eating Whole Grain
